Plantation

The strategy of Rama Forestry Project is the identification of each place punctually and systematically to install in each of them the forest species that best take advantage of the available resources.

A rapid forestry environment is intended to create that better the whole undertaking by means of the environment interaction.

The method for the species and site location is simple and easy to carry out by local personnel (who in general do not have forestry skills), and consists of:

    A-spike techniques,

    B-spike identification and species classifications,

    C-forest mapping.

A- spike techniques

It consists of delimiting with spikes the different soils.

Example: a small watershed with terrains next to rocks with genesis on the upper layer and soils even poorer and low depth, shall be delimited with spikes duly identified (yellow). As soon as the soil characteristics change (deeper soil) it shall be delimitated with spikes of other color (brown), color used as of the soil characteristics change.

In the areas of deeper soils the places belonging to species that require more quality soils shall be delimitated with a third color spikes (green)

In valleys or extensive plains with deep soils or with drainage with high fertility distinctive spikes shall be used (white) that delimitate areas with high timber quality species.

In valleys with deep places but with seasonal water streams, slopes and brooks eventually flooded but not with permanent or semi permanent water blue spikes will be used.

In valleys with flooded areas or slow water draining, such as swamps red spikes will be used.

In pits and stabilized or non stabilized water streams borders, black spikes will be used and in those places high profitability species(best water use) and radicular systems of high quality soil fixation and/or species that provide (in the case of pits) quick timber to make rakes or combs will be cultivated.

Another colors will indicate other cases and species.

The professional will use land drills to determine the area features (depth, formation, fertility, pH, humidity, permeability, etc) and other professional criteria that are useful for the area classification and selection.

B- Spike and species classification.

In general, each spike color belongs to a certain forest specie, so as the personnel has a direct and right reference for the handling of the material to be used.

This stage shall be in hands of the forestry plan professional or foreman in charge.

C- Forest mapping.

As the plan forestry professional or chief will create a large quantity of places for each species in different areas it will be necessary to locate them in the correspondent map indicating each specie and location. This allows the follow up and control of the forestry plan development precisely.
