Each of the pinned leaves of long petiole is formed by five or seven folioles similar to the ash tree and alder ones; its autumnal colors are not very attractive. The pairs of wing seeds are parallel. The 'Variegatum' cultivation has pure white leaves and is more frequently planted than the green original type, but it turns to green in the shoots that grow in the base. Any branch with full green leaves has to be removed.
