Acer Palmatum

Japanese Maple

It is a splendid, very resistant tree, 35m height, with a big broad crown and a trunk of 7m diameter.

It has sinuous branches a little more ascending before arching downwards; the bark is brown. The green leaves have five to seven lobes cloven more than a half, and have its margins delicately serrated.The purple flowers, 7 mm diameter, form small panniculus rather erected; the pale red winged seeds, are arranged in angles of 80 or 90 degrees. The autumnal colors are purple or bronzed.

There are different kinds of cultivation:

'Atropurpureum':
It has the purple foliage during the whole summer, in some trees turning bronze, in others more reddish.

'Dissectum Atropurpureum':
It is a purple-leaf cultivation, deeply cloven.

'Osakazuki':
It is one of the best cultivation. Their leaves have generally seven long pointed globules, at first a greenish bronzed-color or rosy in the margins and in autumn it turns scarlet; in summer the bright red winged seeds, stand out extraordinary against the green foliage.

'Dissectum':
It has deeply cloven green leaves.

'Aureum':
It has light yellow leaves that in autumn turn an intense gold.

'Senkaki':
The maple tree of choral bark has the bark of the shoots and the twigs of choral red and yellow-green little leaves, deeply cloven.

Autochthonous habitat:Mountain forests of Korea

Cultivation:In fertile soil, humid but with good drainage, and protected from the cold winds

Multiplication:By seed in autumn
