It is a tall tree from western Himalayan and Afghanistan, at an altitude of 1200-1300m that in favorable locations exceeds 60m height, with a perimeter up to 12m. It produces an excellent wood similar to the cedar of Lebanon but oilier and with a strong smell, from where the oil of cedar is extracted. It has a narrower and more conic shape than the Lebanon but has not the ascending branches of the Atlantic cedar. The new buds hang graciously and the young trees are very beautiful. The leaves among green and green-silver are narrow and 3-6 cm long. The cones are less abundant than the other true cedars and bigger, up to 14cm height, with broad scales more channeled than the rest. It is a tree that can be exploited with more intensity than to date. Encyclopedia BLUME, Trees, wood and forests of the world, H. Edlin/M.Nimmo, page 105. |
