Ponderosa Pine

It is the most widespread American pine, with huge areas in the northwest zone that goes from sea level to 3000 m.

It is one of the greatest and most important wooden trees of USA that reaches up to 70m height and 2,5 m diameter and lives 700 years.

Thanks to its long pivotal root it can grow where many other species cannot do it. The strong resinous wood with a brown-reddish color allows to obtain pieces of great dimensions and has millions of uses, including the heavy works of construction, interior carpentry, doors, floors, etc. The needles of 16-22 cm long are on the shoots, the cones of 7-10 cm long, when falling leave the base over the branches.

The bark is brown and orange, with irregular scale layers.
