Abeto de Douglas (Pseuditsuga menziesii) Pino de Oregon

Douglas Fir

The natural distribution area of the Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is from the Alaska border through the occidental littoral until Mexico. It is one of the tallest trees of the world: in the Britain Columbia there are still several specimens of over 94 m.

The Douglas fir, commercially known also as Oregon pine is one of the most important wooden trees and nowadays, besides the natural large forests of North America, is object of forestry cultivation mostly in Western Europe, New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.

It is a light rosy wood with brown-orange patches, and the early log of the annual rings, is pale, in contrast with the brown-reddish estival log. It is strong, easy to work and once it is serrated it shows a very nice grain..
